Joel Deacon Williams

He is here! Joel Deacon Williams, weighing in at 8lbs 10oz and 21½ inches long and just the cutest baby ever:)  Joel was born at 8:10, which is funny because he weighed 8 lbs 10 oz.  After he was born he did have some problems with his blood sugar level. It was low.  So they had to give him a bottle to bring it up.  An hour after they gave him the bottle his blood sugar level was normal and he was brought down to the room with us.  For some reason I was losing a lot of blood. I did with Jack too. So they had to put me on medicine that helped stopped the bleeding.  I can't remember the name of it.  But the next day the bleeding slowed down and I was fine. We went home on Monday, which was three days after Joel was born. I was so anxious to weigh myself.  I went upstairs and stepped on the scale........WHAT?!?!?! I only lost 5 lbs???? But I just had an 8 pound baby!!!!  That was very frustrating.  My ankles are gigantic right now from swelling.  I weighed myself this morning and I did lose another 5 pounds so now I am down 10 pounds since I gave birth.  I have to admit, I thought for sure by this time I would be down 20 pounds.  Oh well.  I am nursing Joel and that is going well.  Hopefully that will help me drop some of the weight as well. And when this swelling goes down that should help shed some pounds too.  I hope so!  I had been having a headache off and on in the hospital.  When we got home it seemed to be getting worse. By Tuesday morning I could barely stand up it hurt so bad.  I finally called my doctor. Well actually I called his office because my doctor is on vacation.  His backup doctor told me to go straight to triage to get checked out.  I was actually on my way to the hospital anyway to get Joel's biliruben numbers checked because the doctor thought he might be jaundice.  Luckily my brother took vacation this week to help with the two older boys since my husband would be at work during the days.  So my brother dropped me and Joel off at the hospital and he took the boys shopping and stuff to keep them busy until I was finished. I felt bad because it took us two hours. I went to get Joel's blood drawn then headed down to triage to get checked in.  The anesthesiologist came in and asked some questions then told me that I was experiencing a spinal headache. In my head I was excited because they figured it out. Now I just wanted it fixed!  Then he went on to say that there is no medicine for me to take and to just keep taking my pain medicines, which obviously were not helping.  It should last anywhere from a week to a week and a half. The only good that came out of it was he said to drink plenty of fluids including caffeine.  Mountain Dew it is!! Doctor said so!!! And he said if it gets worse or doesn't start to improve by this weekend to come back in and they will put and epidural in and take some of my blood and put it in where the air hole is.  But since there are risks involved with that they want to wait and see if it will go away on its own.  It is starting to get better. Thank goodness! The epidural thing did not sound like too much fun!  It still hurts pretty bad when I lean forward and when I am nursing.  So after all this we get home and the doctor called with Joel's results.  His numbers are still just a little high so they sent out a biliblanket for him to wear. He has to have that on him at all times until his levels go down.  We go back in Friday morning to have it checked. It is very hard because I feel we are confined to the one little corner in our basement and I can't just grab him and walk around with him. It also makes feedings and diaper changes very challenging.  I feel bad complaining about something like this because other than Joel being jaundice, he is a very healthy little baby and I am very thankful for that.  I am hoping to start my pictures and weigh ins on Friday.  But considering it took me this long to put my first post after having baby, it may not worked out like that.

  1. YAY!! What a beautiful little man you have there!! Congrats...and don't sweat the weightloss, you have a lot on your plate right now. I have had to do the whole bili testing with both of my boys...no blanket though, it is just a pain enough to have to go in everyday for the blood, so I understand that frustration. You will drop the weight, remmeber the night time sweats...that is where it will come out..that is how it worked for me.
